Joe Landen live from Tantra Ibiza (September 2016)

A one hour firework of Deep House and Tech House. This is the recording of DJ Joe Landen live at Tantra Ibiza for the "Two Stations - One Sound" radio show. It was worldwide broadcasted via IBIZA WHITE FM 103.7 and Ibiza Live Radio. Many thanks to Miss Luna! Tune in at play.dirtymindmusic.com.

Listen to the mix:

About the artist:
Electronic Music is the passion of Joe Landen. He is sharing this strong feeling for the music as a DJ and as the man behind “DIRTY MIND MUSIC - Your House Music Source”.

When deejaying, Joe Landen is taking you on a musical journey. Kicking off with some Deep House sounds, building to more pumping Tech House tunes from the underground, and dropping back into the sweet side of life. All tracks Joe Landen is playing are carefully selected and have this certain forward momentum to make your dancing feet go wild.

Joe Landen discovered his passion for Electronic Music when he was 18 and started to collect party flyers. Shortly afterwards Joe established an international network of flyer collectors for exchanging the small hand-outs. For his communication design studies he moved to Stuttgart (Germany) and began to deejay, produce, and organise parties. He became well known with his final year project called "The Flyer Phenomenon" (www.flyerz.de, in German only), a website which is all about the subject matter of party flyers and which also reflects the history of electronic music. As a graphic and web designer he set up the TWINPIX design studio (www.twinpix.de), which had a number of customers from the nightlife scene, including the legendary M1 Club, for which he did the website for over 5 years. In 2006 he was offered the opportunity to spend six months in Amsterdam, fell in love with the city and shortly afterwards emigrated. There Joe founded the internet radio DIRTY MIND MUSIC as a side-project to establish a worldwide platform for quality house music. In 2010 Joe moved from A to B, from Amsterdam to Berlin, taking the radio to another level together with his Finnish wife Ulla Maria. Beginning of 2016 the radio had to close, but since then DIRTY MIND MUSIC is continuing as House Music Blog (www.dirtymindmusic.com) and Soundcloud streaming channel (play.dirtymindmusic.com).

The Best House & Techno Parties 2016 in Ibiza

2016 is a very important year for the White Island as it will have the longest party season ever (from end of May to beginning of October). And it is the last year of the Number 1 House & Techno club in the world: Space. With the change of ownership from Pepe Rosello to the Ushuaia family, EDM will have a much stronger influence on Ibiza from next year on. So 2016 must be huge!

These are the best quality House & Techno parties in Ibiza:

Mondays

Circoloco at DC-10 (Techno, Tech House, Deep House)
The iconic clown face is back! Irresistible for clubbers from all over the world - and for DJs the biggest honor, if you can play here. The careers of Tania Vulcano, Loco Dice and Luciano have started here. Circoloco is as DC-10 as it gets!
20 weeks from the 23rd May to 3rd October 2016.

Cocoon at Amnesia (Techno, Tech House)
Sven Väth is leading his party row into its 17th Ibiza season, making it one of the longest running club nights on the White Island. Here you will experience the essence of Techno, often with longer DJ sets. Its an institution on Ibiza!
19 weeks from the 30th May to 3rd October 2016.

Tuesdays

Carl Cox - Music Is Revolution at Space (Techno, Tech House)
After 15 legendary years at club Space, Carl Cox is presenting his "Final Chapter", due to the changes of the club from next year on. With a duration of 15 weeks it will be the longest season known of Carl Cox in Ibiza. Oh Yes, Oh Yes! Do not miss this spectacular end of an era!
15 weeks from the 14th June to 20th September 2016.

Mosaic By Maceo at Pacha (Techno, Tech House)
Maceo Plex is having his first artist-led residency on the White Island with this new party row! He is presenting local DJ heroes and newcomers and is promising good music, interesting decor and lighting that fits the music (dark and warm). We are curious!
20 weeks from the 24th May to 4th October 2016.

Wednesdays

HYTE at Amnesia (Techno, Tech House)
Last year HYTE established a great new Techno & Tech House party in Ibiza. And this year they are building up on this. It is a coproduction of Amnesia and the massive artist agency Artist Alife, so HYTE will once again be bringing some of the biggest names to the island over the coming months.
15 weeks from the 29th June to 5th October 2016.

Thursdays

...is better a resting day :) Go to see the beautiful island and Es Vedrà (see image above).

Fridays

Music On at Amnesia (Tech House)
Now in its fifth season, Marco Carola's Music On, is more popular than ever! In this party the Amnesia Terrace is the main floor. Its such an amazing feeling when the sunlight is more and more taking over the venue in the morning, while Marco is hitting the decks like a machine. For DIRTY MIND MUSIC the best party on the island!
18 weeks from the 3rd June to 30th September 2016.

Insane at Pacha (Tech House, Deep House)
Insane has established itself as one of the best underground parties in the cherry topped club in the recent years. And as a big surprise Insane is hosting for seven exclusive dates the legendary Vagabundos parties from Luciano and Cadenza (20th May, 10th June, 1st July, 29th July, 12th August, 9th September and 16th September). Back to the roots :)
20 weeks from the 20th May to 7th October 2016.

Glitterbox at Space (Classic House, Deep House)
Defected presents also this year the party row Glitterbox, which takes you back in time. The lineup on the Sunset Terrace has been revealed to include House heroes like Simon Dunmore, Basement Jaxx, Todd Terry, Kenny Dope, DJ Pippi, Dimitri From Paris, Roger Sanchez, Joey Negro, The Shapeshifters, Nightmares On Wax, David Morales and Heller & Farley.
17 weeks from the 3rd June to 23rd September 2016.

Saturdays

elrow at Space (Tech House)
The party originally from Barcelona will take over club Space with quality Tech House and colorful confetti. The highlight will be when the shower of crazy goods falls from the ceiling. A wild fiesta guaranteed!
17 weeks from the 4th June to 24th September 2016.

The Zoo Project at Benimussa Park (Tech House, Deep House)
Its the 10th birthday for this clubbing project, which takes place in a former zoo. Here you can wear fancy (animal) dress with body paint and lose yourself. Also special: its a day to evening party. Release your inner animal!
17 weeks from the 4th June to 24th September 2016.

Sundays

Sundays At Space (Techno, Tech House, Deep House)
Sundays At Space will be embodying the We Love...ethos at the Sunset Terrace and in the Discoteca, while Do Not Sleep will take over the Terraza. Big lineups guaranteed - it will be for sure a legendary last season at Space.
17 weeks from the 5th June to 25th September 2016.

Solomun +1 at Pacha (Deep House)
Diynamic chief Solomun is back at the most beautiful club in the world, presenting his fourth season of Solomun +1. The concept is still the same: 2 DJs during the night, Solomun and a special guest. They often play then back-to-back later at night.
21 weeks from the 22nd May until 9th October 2016.

For detailed lineups and more parties please check the Ibiza Spotlight 2016 Party Calendar.

Meet the DIRTY MIND MUSIC team!

Our radio DIRTY MIND MUSIC celebrates its 5th birthday this summer, so its time that you meet the core team behind it:

City I live in:
Berlin -  an exciting city! Not only because there is so much happening, but also because of its crazy history. You still feel it everywhere and it only happened a few decades ago.

What I love about DIRTY MIND MUSIC:
That we can reach electronic music lovers all over the world! We have listeners in 100 different countries, including South Africa, Bermuda, Colombia, Peru, China, Thailand, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia – amazing what technology can make happen today. I mean, this is the true spirit of House Music: no boundaries - everybody is welcome! And when we get from these listeners a nice feedback, then we know why we are doing the radio.

How DIRTY MIND MUSIC started:
I could not find a radio station, which constantly plays good and interesting house music. So I created my own station as a very ambitious hobby project. Our radio is made out of passion for electronic music. I am glad that lot of people with different skills support my idea.

Best place in Berlin for partying?
Definitely Berghain! As I am a house music lover I prefer the Panorama Bar, the house floor above the main hall. Its very hard to get into the club that is why the crowd inside is so special. Panorama Bar has no Go Go Dancers or any fancy stuff, just this raw architecture and a massive PA. And when its already morning or during the day and the light jockey opens the blinds for a few seconds, the crowd explodes because of the sunlight hitting their moving bodies. Wow!

City I live in:
Berlin. The city of music, culture, art, nature, endless club nights and everything in between! Even though Berlin is a huge cosmopolitan city, it is so relaxed and laidback. Home <3

What I love about DIRTY MIND MUSIC:
The fact that DMM plays killer tracks one after the other. The majority of the tracks we play are first heard at a party or in a DJ mix from our favorite DJs. We fall in love with the tracks, find them, buy them and add them to our radio. Every track has a little story. It is nice way to remember those moments again.

How DIRTY MIND MUSIC changed after I participated:
I joined DMM officially in 2010. Back then we played lot of progressive and vocal house. It was very nice and sweet, but we needed a fresh kick! I'm a girl who prefers tech house, techno, minimal, pumping beats and fat bass, so I guess this was the time when DMMs music style changed towards the techy side.

Best place for partying outside Berlin?
IBIZA!! The paradise on earth! You have the best clubs with unbelievable soundsystems, best DJs, like-minded people and the great athmosphere. You have the sun, sea & beach! You have daytime parties and you can go loco during the night. Ibiza is the mecca for electronic music lovers, when you come to the island you can really feel the energy! :) You have to experience this!

City I live in:
Nuremberg (Germany), the city with the famous Christmas market and the spicy gingerbread :-)

What I love about DIRTY MIND MUSIC:
The radio is supporting me in my daily life whenever I need it. With DIRTY MIND MUSIC working, running, cleaning or cooking is more fun. It cheers me up when I am down and calms me down when I need to relax. Sometimes it makes me dancing, sometimes it makes me dreaming...

The idea behind my DIRTY MIND characters:
As the main visual for the radio Joe wanted to create an artificial DIRTY MIND landscape with characters. Together we came up with the idea that I design certain characters, which represent our best friends and our pets. We also have the staff in it like Ulla, the cool cat Mr. Blackie, myself and of course Joe, who is also in the logo of DIRTY MIND MUSIC. The two silhouettes behind him in the logo represent his supporters, who stand behind him. As you can see, the DIRTY MIND WORLD is very unique and personal!

House Music...
sounds better with Joe ;-)

City I live in:
I live in a town called Esslingen near Motorcity Stuttgart. Smaller than Stuttgart, but all you need is a bit peace in your home without all that noise.

What I love about DIRTY MIND MUSIC:
I like the freshness and familiarity of DMM. There are so many DJs, who live for their sets and music - and in DMM they find a home sweet home.

A good DJ mix in my oppinion?
There's no guidance for a good DJ mix. Some people like it hot from the first minute, some need a structure form from easy to party. Every set has it's secret, which has to be found by the audience.

What am I currently busy with:
After years of having the plan in my head my partner in crime Patrick Vano and me started our own label TONSPORT MUSIC. Somewhere between dirty House, grooving Techhouse tunes and a bit of Techno we will offer a plattform for good music. Namedropping is not our aim, we just wanna make the people dance!

City I live in:
Blackie City (I think some ugly humans call it also „Berlin“)

What I love about DIRTY MIND MUSIC:
The stop button, so I can finally get my 18 hours beauty sleep!

DJs I would like to hear in a DIRTY MIND MIX:
Deadmau5, Loco Mice, Daft Skunk, Milk & Sugar, Swedish Mouse Mafia and Felix Da Housecat.

How it feels to make a career from an injured Amsterdam street cat to a superstar in posh Berlin district Prenzlauer Berg:
Pawsome!

Feel free to come and say hello if you spot one of us, we love to get in touch with music lovers!

Ibiza 2013 – The biggest changes this season

Another Ibiza season just started, and this summer is going to be very special! A lot of interesting changes happened this year…

2013 - the year of changes

New club “Bomba” (now Booom!)
First of all, there is a new mega club on the island called “Bomba”. The venue is situated near the harbour of Ibiza Town and hosted the “Penelope” in the past. A real nightlife pro took over the place: Danny Whittle. After being responsible for the bookings of Pacha for years it was time for an own club. Danny takes some of the biggest nights of Pacha with him to Bomba, such as Luciano’s Vagabundos, Erick Morillo and Defected. Wondering why Pacha would let all these people go? Then read further…

Pacha back to the roots
Pacha got enough of the development of DJ fees. In their eyes, big DJs earn too much. That’s why they want to go back to their roots and host nights, where the DJ is not the most important thing. The only one who is allowed to stay is one of the best-paid DJs in the world: David Guetta. Very confusing…

Ushuaia takes over
The 5 star clubbing hotel is getting bigger and bigger. Now Ushuaia took over an old hotel next to the venue, creating the luxury “Ushuaia Tower” out of it. The rooftop will host exclusive parties with a very selective door.
Ushuaia continues to have big daytime parties with their big stage at the pool area. Loco Dice takes over the Thursday slot from Luciano, presenting his new party row “Used + Abused”, while Luciano moves to the Tuesday.
But also Ushuaia learned for this season. They took the complaints of some clubbers serious, that there is too much VIP-habit on their parties. That’s why they now launched a daytime party with underground vibe called “Ants”, taking place every Saturday on a smaller pool area.

Solomun - the new hero of Ibiza
After establishing last year the very successful “Diynamic Neon Night” in club Sankeys on Tuesdays, Mr. Solomun returns to Ibiza to open up a second night! He takes over the Sunday slot of the “Vagabundos” in Pacha to present his new concept “Solomun +1”. This clearly shows that Deep House is getting bigger in the scene again.

The best parties 2013 in Ibiza

You know us, we only recommend the top-notch parties with quality music. If you are this summer in Ibiza, then do not miss these:

Mondays:
Mondays is of course time for “Circo Loco” in DC10. The party is like an electronic music carnival at a high level. The sound is always good and the people are awesome. Expect a more underground atmosphere than in the other clubs.

Also “Cocoon” returns to Amnesia this season. After having a hard time in 2012 with the leaving of the master mind DJs Richie Hawtin and Marco Carola (both establishing great own nights) we are curious to see, how Cocoon and their Techno will develop this year...

Tuesdays
Godfather of Techno Carl Cox continues his musical revolution in club Space and will present very interesting artists like Nic Fanciulli or Nicole Moudaber.

After a successful premiere last summer, the shooting star Solomun returns to club Sankeys with his “Diynamic Neon Night”. If you love Deep House and neon, especially on your face, then this is the place to be.

Wednesdays
For the second year “tINI and the Gang” will be at beach club Sirocco, presenting from around 5pm until midnight a fine selection of Desolat artists – for free!

Thurdays
As mentioned above Loco Dice from Desolat will present for the first time his own party row "Used + Abused” in Ushuaia, starting already really early around 2 pm. For sure this will be a new highlight on the white island.

Our last year party favourite “ENTER” returns also this year to Space. Richie Hawtin is the man behind this great night, which was only established last year. A must see!

As Ushuaia and Space are just lying opposite of each other, the Thurday will be THE PARTY DAY on the island. Seamless partying from 2 pm to 7am on Friday, this is a touch of Berlin!

Fridays
Another great night, which was first created in 2012, comes back to Ibiza: “Music On” with Marco Carola in club Amnesia. Marco will create also this year an unforgettable experience for clubbers on the legendary terrace.

Saturdays
Underground vibe at Ushuaia. The brand new party row “Ants” will show, that the place is not only about VIP. Clubbers robed in only black clothing get discount. People, who work on the island, can register for free entry to the party row. If you become a community member on the Ants-Website, you will get free entry for one party.

Sundays
On Sunday it’s time for Luciano and his “Vagabundos”, showcasing a lot of artists of his uber-label “Cadenza”. As mentioned before the party moved from Pacha to the new venue “Booom!”. For sure this is a great opportunity to see the new club.

A big surprise for everyone: Solomun establishes a second Ibiza residency, this time at Pacha. Taking over the Vagabundos-slot the shooting star DJ will host his “Solomun +1”-parties, which means, he and a special guest will play during the night.

See you in Ibiza this summer!

House Music Trends 2013

House Music in 2013 can be best described as „back to the old school“. Older House genres and elements will have their ultimate revival.

Deep House

The Ibiza 2012 season showed clearly were the trend goes to. One of the biggest successes in the summer had Solomun with his Diynamic's Neon Night, championing the Deep House sound every week. Complex melodies and chords combined with hard driving beats will be big in 2013, setting a clear sign against the trends of the last years: Tech House and Minimal. Also vocals and the good old House organ are back, Robin S would be so proud…

Acid House Elements

Without Acid House, House Music would have not the standing like it has nowadays. This genre brought end of the 80s House to the masses and developed a lot of unique elements, which all will have a big revival in 2013. There is the specific TB303-sound, the snare drums, sirens, the typical way the deep bassline is played, and and and…
A lot of producers will use these "old elements" and combine it with a fresh up-to-date production style. The results are energetic tracks with a classic touch.

Let’s see, if the smiley gets a revival, too!

Summer Jobs in Ibiza - Tips from an Expert

Many young people, who love electronic music, dream of having a seasonal job in Ibiza. I talked to my friend Jörg, he is German and he is working for over 10 years every summer in the NEW GARDEN bar in Playa d'en Bossa. There he is responsible for selling club tickets. Jörg is a true Ibiza expert and is answering the most important questions about summer jobs on the White Isle:

Is it easy to find a seasonal job in Ibiza?
Yes! There are many possibilities: working in a hotel, restaurant, bar or club, making promotion for parties, selling club tickets, etc.

How do I get a job in Ibiza?
The easiest way is to fly to the island before the season really starts. So come beginning of May and just ask for jobs, where you want to work.

What about the languages?
A lot of people who start to work here can not speak Spanish. Of course with Spanish your life is easier in Ibiza, but it is also a good chance to learn the language. So be open minded and interested. Ibiza is a tourist island, the more languages you speak the better. Besides Spanish the main languages are English, German and Italian.

How are the working conditions?
Most of the jobs are during the evening and night, so it might be you work from around 8 pm to 4 am (or later) every day. The season only lasts about 4 months, so usually you work this period and without any day off! With a normal holiday job you will not get rich here, but most likely you come here for sun, fun and meeting cool people, instead of money making. You have here the beaches and the parties next to your work, so it can be very exhausting, but for sure it is a once in a lifetime experience. Do not expect all the time holiday, it can be a hard job. And the coolest job ever. If you like electronic music Ibiza is your paradise. Many workers return every season to the island.

Where do I live?
If you are working for a hotel then most likely you will get a room there. Otherwise you have to take care about this yourself! The housing situation in Ibiza is not the best. If you can share a room with someone else you have to pay around 200 - 300 EUR a month. If you want the room for yourself it will be around 400 EUR. An own apartment costs 1200 - 1600 EUR a month!

Can I come to Ibiza without money? I will earn money there.
Be aware you have to come to Ibiza in May, but most likely you start to earn money beginning of June, when the main season starts. Most likely you get your monthly wage end of the month. So you have to live the first 2 months from your savings! When you rent a room or apartment the landlord wants a deposit (around 2 months rent) and the first rent.

Do I have free entry to the clubs?
If you are selling club tickets or promoting parties you will get a certain kind of identity card, which allows you to enter the clubs for free. This saves you a lot of money during the season! The club entry is usually around 30 - 70 EUR a night.

Luciano & Cadenza return with Vagabundos to Pacha

Great news: After the announcement of Circoloco we are happy to tell that the other top party row of Ibiza returns in 2011!

The adventure of Luciano & the Cadenza crew continues in Club Pacha. "Vagabundos" promises: "Total dedication to the art of the party, an uncompromising underground vibe and cutting-edge music".

Everybody who saw the debut last year will totally agree! Forget David Guetta, the top party in Pacha is definitely Vagabundos!

Fallen Heroes - Chapter 2: Erick Morillo

They were music heroes for me. The best DJs, Live-Acts, Producers in my eyes. But driven by commerce or by whatever they suddenly changed into something worse… other style, other image. No quality at all anymore. This is about me and my Fallen Heroes.

Chapter 2 - Erick Morillo

Erick Morillo is a clever guy: first he writes a worldwide hit, but instead of putting his name and his face on the stage he hires a "Mad Stuntman" and calls the song "I Like to Move It". After making enough money with this "Reel 2 Real" project Morillo concentrates on the things he really wants to do: deejaying.

Erick is an extremely skillful artist and he plays himself into the top league of House DJs in no time. He needs an own independent platform for good releases and founds one of the most important House Music Underground labels: Subliminal Records.

Now he can release every year an important and highly respected Mix-CD, the "Subliminal Sessions", showing the world his talent and his diversity! The secret of Morillo is he is not sticking to only one House style like most of his colleagues, no, Morillo picks the best of the full range of House and creates one masterpiece.

And he makes use of the technical progress in electronic music. As one of the first DJs he plays next to turntables also with CD-Players, effect and looping units. Morillo creates an unique style, looping a cool underground beat of this track, putting the concise vocals of another track over it, effect here, equalizer there. Morillo puts a firework on the dancefloor like never heard before, he is working in his DJ booth like a maniac with at least 4 arms. If a DJ is worthy of getting 10.000$ for a gig then its Morillo.

He controls the dancing crowd like no other DJ. If Morillo wants to make us scream, we scream. If Morillo wants to make us freak out, we freak out. If Morillo wants us to calm down after a firework, we calm down, to get ready for the next climax. He is famous for creating a unique style of breaks, in the right moment he puts the pumping bass suddenly down, letting the high tones loop, bringing in some additional sounds and effects… the whole crowd is freaking out and is wishing only one thing: Bring back that Bass! And Morillo brings it back - more powerful and mighty than never before. Moments I will never forget in my life. He is for me the best DJ in the world.

But not only for me, the famous club Pacha in Ibiza is offering him every summer a weekly residency, the "Subliminal Sessions" parties are THE highlight on the island. Once connected with the Pacha crew Morillo opens his own Pacha in New York. Cherries never tasted so sweet. He seems to be unstoppable.

The only one who can stop him is Morillo himself. Suddenly around the year 2008 Morillo changes. He plays mainly commercial house hits, the diversity, hardness and the power in his music are gone. And also his mighty breaks are suddenly lame and in the complete wrong moment. What happened?! Is he doing too much? Does he have no time anymore to prepare his sets? Is he getting too old? Does he not feel anymore, what the crowd needs? It seems like somebody took away his gift.

But who got it then? Maybe Axwell, the new looping and effects master. He plays cheesy, but he knows definitely how to put energy on the dancefloor. Maybe Matthias Tanzmann, the new king of breaks. They are mighty, so mighty that the whole party crowd goes down on their knees, rocking to the beat down there, waiting for the bass to come back…

Fallen Heroes - Chapter 1: Bob Sinclar

They were music heroes for me. The best DJs, Live-Acts, Producers in my eyes. But driven by commerce or by whatever they suddenly changed into something worse… other style, other image. No quality at all anymore. This is about me and my Fallen Heroes.

Chapter 1 - Bob Sinclar

I still remember the time, when suddenly a fresh House sound popped into the Electronic Music Scene - it was the end of the 1990s. Lots of filters, cut-offs, phasers and samples. Artists from France conquered the dancefloor: Daft Punk, Cassius and a mysterious man called Bob Sinclar. French House was born - a skillful mix of popular elements and a cool underground vibe.

Bobs breakthrough was the album "Paradise" in 1998. It is still one of my favorite albums of all time (next to Basement Jaxx "Remedy"). Tracks like "The Ghetto", "My Only Love" or "Vision Of Paradise" blew me away. You heard, this man lives for music! What a producer! But in the whole album no photo of Bob, who is this guy? I was getting curious…

We all could not wait for a new album to come and finally in 2000 "Champs Elysées" was released. And Bob showed us once again what House Music is: Sexy like "I Feel For You", crazy like "Ich rocke" and energetic like "Save Our Soul". With every track he invented himself again. Bob was the greatest.

Until a hot summer night in Pacha Ibiza 2005… Roger Sanchez was playing his own warm-up for an amazing 8h set. And during this still very fresh evening he dropped suddenly a horrible record, more suitable for a kids birthday than for the most beautiful club in the world. Anyway, luckily I did not hear this awful tune again, until a party in cold December. When I found out the track was from Bob a world collapsed for me… people might guess already, I am talking about "Love Generation".

Everything what followed then from him had the same kind of quality, commercial R&B (Rubbish & Bullshit). Instead of cooperating like in the past with Music Masterminds like Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) the New Bob is Buddy Buddy with Shaggy, Sean Paul and Goleo (The Mascot of the 2006 FIFA World Cup). His releases are monotone, without any innovation and sounding like Greetings from Jamaica or a Pony Ranch. Oh Bob, why oh why?!?

You were a highly payed DJ already, with hundreds of high-class bookings around the globe. Your releases were selling good. You had such a great standing in the Electronic Music Scene. So money & fame can not be the reason.

After all, I am glad another French Producer is showing us right now what is possible in the Post-French-House-Era: Rodriguez Jr. - Vive La France!
